Book Blogger Hop: June 15th | Collector’s Edition Or New Releases?

You have just won a $100.00 Visa gift card. Will you spend the entire amount on a rare collector’s edition you have always wanted, or buy several newly-published books? Explain your choice.

‘Book Blogger Hop’ is hosted by CoffeeAddictedWriter.

This week seems to have gone incredibly fast. It feels like I was only posted the last week’s BBH answer the other day, but I’ve somewhat been getting caught up in things (mental health wise) so apologies if I’ve been scarce. Good news though is that we’re going to pick up Arlo tomorrow!

More on that later though, as this is an excellent question.

Firstly, thank you to whoever the hell convinced me to enter a competition for the gift card in the first place, as I’m usually the type of person to shrug those things off. I like how this question straight away assumes that we’ll be spending the money on books one way or another – which is not a problem with me as that’s very much the reality of what would happen.

Between buying a collector’s edition of a series or buying newly-published books, I would say that I’d have to go with purchasing several newly released books. Whilst there are a few book series that I adore, I always am looking to expand my reading preferences and experiences further. I always want to look into new genres and new authors to experience new stories, so I’m always looking to buy the latest releases and often find myself reading books that I had no clue existed beforehand.

I can definitely see the appeal in purchasing a collector’s edition of a series that you love to no end, though, depending on its reputation, I’d have to assume that it’d be more than $100. I mean, if you’re going to look into purchasing a collectors edition of ‘Lord Of The Rings’ or ‘Game Of Thrones’, I’m fairly sure it’d be a bit more costly than if you wanted a collector’s edition of a lesser known series. Though, be that as it may, of course we all have our own preferences to this answer, so anything goes! I personally think you would have to have a series that you loved more than anything for that, though, and I haven’t quite found myself that fond of a series yet. I have, however, purchased duplicates of the same books or series due to re-releases or different cover designs, so who knows.

I’d definitely have to use the gift card to purchase a few new books, even though we all know that $100 won’t necessarily get you all that far with how costly books can be these days. Though, I think I’d take the opportunity to use the gift card to work on expanding my reading experience further and exploring the works of different authors.

Likewise, I think a $100 gift card would give me the chance to start racking up the number of books I have that are currently on my ‘to be read’ list. The extra little bit of money could help me explore authors that I’m eager to read but haven’t had the ability to do so yet. There are a lot of upcoming releases that I’m also looking forward to, so I’d probably either use the money to get some new releases or put it aside whilst waiting for a certain series to be released or for a certain author to debut a new novel.

Like I said at the beginning of the post, tomorrow we are going to pick up Arlo! If you happen to remember him from my BBH answer a few weeks back, you’ll know how excited I am. It’s so strange that we’re already getting him, though he’s still only going to be 7 weeks old. I hope you don’t mind seeing more photos of him in the upcoming weeks!

What about you? If you won a $100 gift card, would you purchase a collector’s edition, or would you prefer to buy a variety of new releases? Let me know! I’d love to see how our answers differ.

Thanks for reading my answer to this week’s ‘Book Blogger Hop‘ and I’ll write you later.
